about

Homegrown Rawk and/or Roll
Starfire's Mix

This first collection of Homegrown music was selected by Scott "Starfire" Lunt, who founded the Homegrown Music Festival in 1999. The annual event, held during the first week of May, has since become the premiere showcase of musicians in the Duluth Area.

A native of Austin, Minnesota, Lunt moved to Duluth in 1993. He made his first contribution to the local music scene in 1997 when he started Random Radio, an unlicensed low-power station which broadcast from his basement in the East Hillside. IT was then that he took the name DJ Starfire.

On May 8, 1998, the day after his 30th birthday, he invited five bands to play a private party. One of those bands was his own, Father Hennepin, performing for the first time. That even is considered the precursor of the Homegrown Music Festival.

Starfire has gone on to found the Starfire Lounge at Fitger's Brewhouse, co-found the Geek Prom and PerfectDuluthDay.com, serve as the rock-and-roll nanny for Low, and open his own business, Starfire Screen Printing Co.
